6 Week Quickie Kundalini Yoga for Your Nervous System: Live or Recorded, Twice a Week, 20 minutes a class

NOTE: this session, live yoga will be on Wednesday and Friday, but again, you can also opt to watch the recordings after.

If your nervous system doesn’t feel pretty damn fried after the last year (four years), then I’m not sure what planet you’ve been living on, but whoa… for those of us who are feeling fried, Kundalini is here to help with that.

artificial-intelligence-4389372_1920.jpg

Kundalini is extra for brain health. With repeated movements, we’re actually working to reset and redesign brain. We’re also working on all the major glands.

Add in breath work and internal focus and you leave even a short class feeling calm but energized and focused (says this girl with the most scattered — SQUIRREL !! — brain who also has been battling depressive episodes for her whole life).

To read more about what an actual Christine-alini Kundalini yoga class looks like go here.

If you’ve never taken a ZOOM class with me, PLEASE GO HERE AND READ CAREFULLY. Pay special attention to how we handle music.

SIX WEEK SESSION, STARTING the week of April 18th

For this six week session, you’ll have two evenings (or recordings) to choose from or you can do both at a discount!

springmovartclass.jpg

On Tuesdays, we’ll get hyper focused on the anatomy of movement that makes you feel good. Think about this like a moving massage class, where we dive into muscle and fascia and work in a detailed way with each of our joints.

On Thursdays, we’ll work to let our bodies talk. We’ll use methods to explore the narrative that our lives have left imprinted within our cells. “The body never lies,” as Martha Graham said.

MORE DESCRIPTION OF EACH BELOW.

TUESDAYS: REJUVENATIVE BODY PARTS
April 20, 27 and May 4, 11, 18, 25
5:25 to 6:30 PM Easter U.S. Time (OR WHENEVER YOU WANT TO WATCH THE VIDEO)
COST: $85 (OR at a discount for both; see below)

THURSDAY: BODY NARRATIVE IMMERSION
April 22, 29 and May 6, 13, 20, 27
5:25 to 6:30 PM Eastern U.S. Time (OR WHENEVER YOU WANT TO WATCH THE VIDEO)
COST: $85 (OR at a discount for both; see below)

BOTH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY
COST: $155

FURTHER DESCRIPTIONS

TUESDAYS: REJUVENATIVE BODY PARTS

Movement should feel good. And after you move, you should feel even better. The goal of this class is to help you feel amazing in this body so that you can feel even more amazing in your life.

We’ll use the breath and fine tuned attention to get deeply into our muscles and fascia in a way that systems based on postures cannot. We’ll use water as our primary motivating metaphor and the circle/spiral as our basic template. We’ll work through the parts of the body from the ground up, from every angle, and THROUGH every plane.

THURSDAYS: BODY NARRATIVE IMMERSION

Your life’s stories do not simply get stored in the memory of your mind. Everything that has ever happened to you is left in some way in some space in your body. We talk about this often in relation to the after effects of trauma, but the joyful and happy moments are there also. We’ll work with all of it or whatever of it wants to come up.

Body will be the boss. And like a language immersion, we’ll spend time listening and then allowing our understanding of our own unique vocabulary to grow over the six weeks.

Though we won’t be spending a ton of time with words, I would recommend having pen and paper nearby in case you need to capture an insight or two.

April Yoga Philosophy Practice: Asteya (Nonstealing) (With a little note about where I've been...)

When I started this practice this year, I said there are 10 of these practices so we’ll have two months to review at the end of the year. HA! March got eaten up by the whole process of buying and then closing on and then moving into our new home in Columbus. If you wanna be nosey (and who doesn’t!?), it’s right here.

I cannot explain to you what a freaking miracle this purchase was. I never thought we’d find something in Victorian Village, mere blocks from the main arts district. But here we are. If you knew our home in Erie, this space is that square footage, BUT there’s an undeveloped attic space here that shows a ton of promise as an art and music space for Craig and general storage. We’re settled in and excited.

Now to begin again with our yoga inquiries…

Nonstealing seems pretty obvious, right? Don’t take what’s not yours. We tend to limit our thinking around this to the material world, to concrete objects that do not belong to us. So, most of us, can feel pretty good right away about ASTEYA… most of us can immediately say, I’m good here! I don’t steal.

But that is the most simplistic level of this yama (restraint).

Over the coming month, think about and observe yourself relative to the following questions. Try to observe and not also layer on shame. Guilt is okay; it can tell us something is off. But shame is not productive.

asteya.jpg
  1. How often do you steal from YOURSELF? This one is freaking VAST, right? When we’re not true to who we are, we’re stealing. Every time we don’t honor our own needs, we’re stealing. When we give too much to others, we’re stealing from us. There is so much we steal from ourselves: energy, time, integrity, care, love, trust, faith, belief… the list could truly go on and on…

  2. How often do you steal from others? Do you pop someone’s excitement balloon? Do you rain on friends’ parades? Do you not tell them something they need to know? Again… this list could take many pages.

  3. How much do you steal from this earth? I can barely begin to start the list of questions here. Follow yourself through your day and just notice…. did you leave the water running? Did you drive when you could have walked? Did you waste food? Sigh…

  4. Are you stealing from the future? We are someone’s ancestors. What are we leaving behind?

I would love to hear from you on this one. Even if we all just added more questions, that would be helpful to the community at large.

Kundalini Saved My Life and Prepared Me to Return to Dance….AND this kind of yoga is for people who think yoga is “not for them…”

That’s not an exaggeration. I was deep into a severe and life threatening and long term cycle of depression and anxiety. My willingness (and I have no idea where that came from!) to try yoga and then to try Kundalini did something magical to my brain.

The focus on breath work and the quick movements of Kundalini — rather than the stationary poses of more “mainstream” yoga — washed my brain in serious amounts of happy chemicals, and yes, that would go away mere hours after practice but it was enough that it stayed in my memory and made me go back again and again. The longer I practiced — over months and years — the longer the effects lasted after each session.

JOYBODY Movement Arts: March Classes (Live or Recorded)

For this four week session, you’ll have two evenings (or recordings) to choose from or you can do both at a discount! On Tuesdays, we’ll get hyper meditative and breath focused in our movement work, and on Thursdays, we’ll dive into explorative work that takes us past this physical form and into our emotional and psychological landscapes (the space within us where our wordless truth resides).

143818101_10218934660465169_1152964940074551200_n.jpg

Of course, both are meditative and breath focused and both are explorative. This is about where the primary focus is.

PLEASE NOTE: if you’ve not yet taken a Zoom class with me, please read all of this page over here carefully and pay extra attention to the music aspects.

What will these classes look like?

If you’ve never taken a class like this with me, start by reading over here.

Tuesday’s meditative/breath focus will be a lot about long stretches of music that support long stretches of quiet time. I’ll be guiding you but minimally throughout so as not to interrupt the deepening of your own experience.

Thursday’s explorative work will be more prompt focused. We’ll be using the Zen Koan technique of confusing the mind chatter to get to our true selves. We’ll also investigate finding new ways of moving to allow for new ways of thinking and being.

MEDITATIVE SESSION BEGINS TUESDAY, March 9th

TIME: Tuesdays, 5:30 to 6:30 PM (Eastern Time) (I get online at 5:20 for chatting!)

What I'm Giving Up for Lent... and it's not what you think...

80664006_10220433405005927_9030431037787734016_n.jpg

This photo… it’s full of stories that you can’t see when you first look but it’s layered so that when I look at it, I get flooded.

This was from right before I met Craig. This was when I was living in such a way that I woke up each day excited. I was living in such a way that I startled myself with the sound of my own laughter that came from so deep in my belly and that erupted from me so very easily.

This was from when I was doing All the Things. And I wasn’t doing All the Things out of some sense of “MUST” but rather out of “could” and “happily so.”

After so many years of serious depression, I had finally gotten back to what I call my “gooey center.”

Then a lot of shit happened that I don’t want to review.

I’m sharing this photo to say… here she is… Here is me.

Here is the me who spent time in spiritual practices every single day without the need to schedule them.

Here is the me who danced every single day BESIDES all the movement teaching she did almost daily.

Here is the me who went to the lake, who walked in the park, who spent time outside every day.

Here is the me who ate so healthily because she finally felt the difference and it stuck.

Here is the me who put herself first because only by doing that are we the best version of us for those around us.

Here is the me who felt like a fucking superstar just by living her own life.

So here’s what I’m giving up for lent this year:

I’m giving up NOT doing what I know makes me feel great.

I’m giving up HIDING.

I’m giving up this mousey, playing small that I seem to have fallen into.

I’m giving up too much damn quiet.

I’m giving up the lethargy and the apathy and the what-if-ism and the only-if-ism and the regret and the doubt and the self judgment.

Oh… and gluten. ((ha))

You?

WHAT is JoyBody MOVEMENT RESEARCH?

It’s pretty much what it sounds like. We’ll be researching different kinds of movement in your body.

Each day for 20 minutes, we’ll explore something new. One day, it might be yoga heavy, the next it could be Butoh (Super slow), the next might be about falling well or balance or biomechanics, and the next, it could feel like an energizing DISCO!

You’ll get a little bit of everything and you’ll definitely get to learn something new about your own movement and what brings you into alignment with this idea of JoyBody.

#BeautyGazing: A Catalog

Every now and then I’ll share a post of a collection of things I’ve been sharing across a bunch of platforms for #BeautyGazing. These are meant to act as Micro Meditations through the senses. Take a moment and breathe and just be. I’ve described this idea over here.

Ballerina Anna Pavlova by Ira L. Hill Studio, 1914

Ballerina Anna Pavlova by Ira L. Hill Studio, 1914

First, if you’ve not done so, check out my TikTok. I know, it might seem redonk to some of you… TIKTOK!? But I find a lot of joy and peace over there and I’m curating my own page to be nothing but these micro meditations.

If you love tarot and fashion, oh, my, are you in luck! This mini film by Dior is breathtakingly beautiful.

This one is under two minutes: Colorized film of 1920's Paris. We can’t travel and this felt like a moment of bliss.

Did you see that a teen intern at NASA discovered a new planet!?!? And it looks like freaking CANDY!

If you’ve never seen skies filled like RIVERS with monarch butterflies… I could watch this over and over and over. It’s only a couple of minutes.

This shaman video on Facebook about our interconnectedness with nature… it says everything.

And some of my recent photos from my beauty seeking in this new and interesting home city…
